Transferring to new living quarters can be costly, and so, to save on expenses, you decide to pack and move your furnishings by yourself in a rented moving truck or van. It seems like a difficult task, but with careful planning and proper packing procedures, you can be sure to arrive at your new home with your items still in one piece.
Furniture pieces are some of the most tedious items to pack. To start off, you should list which ones you want to bring with you. This will help you determine the load, the size of your needed vehicle, and the amount of packaging materials that you need. After that, you can clean your furnishings, and disassemble those that can be separated following the manuals. Keep the furniture pieces and nuts and bolts wrapped separately, but organised together in the same boxes to make them easy to reassemble. You can use bubble wrap, furniture blankets, old towels and sheets to cover the items.
In loading your furnishings, start with your biggest pieces to form the base and place the more delicate ones at the back end. Make sure they will not move and are compactly packed against each other with padding in between to avoid scratches. Put your boxes on top of the furniture and make sure they are packed tightly together, too. In the vacant spaces, stuff smaller items to maximise space and to further stabilise the load. Balance the weight within the truck to prevent any accidents during sharp turns and to help the vehicle travel smoothly. In case it looks like the load is unstable, tie down any loose items.
